Thionyl Chloride (SOCl₂) - other reagent. Converts alcohols and acids to chlorides. Common uses: Alcohol → Alkyl chloride (inversion), Carboxylic acid → Acyl chloride. Gaseous byproducts (SO₂, HCl) make workup easy. Use pyridine as base.
